Android Language Classes Text To Speech

To enabled Text To Speech, press the menu button in the application. Then choose Audio/Text To Speech. A screen similar to the one visible on the left will appear.

If text-to-speech is not installed already, the application will automatically try to open the Android Market and point the user to the (free) text-to-speech app. Install this application. It will put all necessary text-to-speech files under the svox folder on the sdcard.

Once text-to-speech in installed, the user will have the option to enable audio. Once the checkbox is marked, it is possible to test the text-to-speech. Also, in the vocabulary, all words will have a play button, which plays the word when pressed.

Note that when playing a first word, there will probably a delay of like 3 seconds. After that, words will play right away.

NOTE: The text-to-speech is not 100% accurate, but its close. If the output is of very bad quality, this is probably because your Android OS is not properly configured. To fix this, go to Settings>Text To Speech and make sure Always Use My Settings is not marked. If this setting is marked, and the language is configured as "English" there, the text to speech engine will try to pronounce the words in English, which is obviously not what you want when trying to pronounce Spanish, Portuguese or French.
